My Family, Critters, & Fun!

My wonderful husband George and I live out in the country and share our place with the many animals that we’ve acquired – all of which have their own special personalities! We have 6 cats, 3 llamas, 6 hens, 1 rooster, 3 ducks & 1 small dog. I do enjoy gardening and have an abundance of flowers everywhere in the backyard. There’s also a couple of water features for the different birds to splash around in and take their daily baths.

George and I do love to dance whenever we get a chance—at the local farmer’s market or our favorite winery. Sometimes when the mood strikes, we just dance wildly away in our home. Also, he and I started kayaking many years ago, venturing out into both fresh and salt waters. Now we travel to a small lake about 20 minutes from our house. It’s marvelous to paddle around and watch the lively waterfowl in their habitat. Some days we might even get a glimpse of the rambunctious otters swimming nearby.

We have two beautiful grown daughters who are dear to our hearts. Hannah lives in California and Elaine lives in Australia. Both are adventurous and enjoy living with their life partners. We always have the want to see them more often —as all parents do.

For now, that’s enough about me.—There will be other bits of my life sprinkled
throughout this website, called -- Life Notes.

My Career

I’ve had many teaching jobs throughout my career, pre-school through the elementary grades. Some of the positions I held were as follows: Head Start Teacher, Multi-age 1st-3rd Grade Teacher, First Grade Teacher, Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist. Teaching young children to be successful readers became a driving force in my life.

Later, when a new opportunity appeared, I took the leap and left the classroom. I became a Literacy Facilitator for kindergarten through sixth grade teachers. This coaching job was exciting and challenging all at the same time. My learning curve exploded!

These teaching experiences led me to switch gears and obtain an administration job. I devoted my last six years before retiring, to my role as an elementary school principal. What a complex and rewarding job!

Throughout my whole career I’ve been a presenter at educational conferences and workshops. My goal was to provide information, ideas and best practices to parents and educators about literacy.

AND… as a retired educator my passion for helping children learn to read still burns inside me. My desire to share what I’ve learned and am currently learning about literacy has led me to create this website called—Early Literacy Learning.

Oh, and another thing---I do love to write poems and songs for young children that are fun and educational. Many of them will be showing up in my POSTS for your use.

Thanks for stopping by my website!
